Eco-friendly Computer Repair System and some tips for e-recycling which is a big topic these days. Computers, cell phones, and similar equipment are going into our land fills. And these components contain environmentally hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium.

These dangerous substances once in the ground can leach into water supplies and other vital and delicate environmental systems. It is estimated that over one hundred thousand computer systems are being discarded a day in this country.

That is not per year or month; this is per day, so it is certainly an issue we all need to address for the sake of our environment. There are many ways you can help reduce the chance of environmental harm. For instance, if you are replacing your computer, you can donate your old one to a school or non-profit agency. Or you can list if for sale to in an online classified. If you donate it, realize that unless it is a reasonably recent model, it might not be accepted.

If you are trying to sell it, remember people are looking for bargains on used components and so not expect to make a large profit from the sale of your old computer.

Many communities have e-recycling days where the city will arrange for someone to drive through the neighborhood and collect old computers or they set up a central location in your area where you can take all your old components for recycling.

If your community is offering this service, you should take advantage of it because it will probably be a free service whereas if you take your computer to some recycling centers, you will most likely have to pay a recycling fee.

You can also take it to the store you bought your computer from and ask if they have a recycling program that allows you to leave it for free with them because you are a customer.

Realize that in some areas you can be fined for improperly disposing of your electronic components. So paying a nominal fee to have your components recycled is much less expensive than the fine.

There are also companies that are taking computers and other components and dismantling them and removing the valuable substances like gold and even lead and selling for a profit. They take apart computer monitors and remove the tubes and send them to a recycling plant.

Bluetooth is a wireless communication protocol that provides a method of wirelessly exchanging data between bluetooth enabled devices. Unlike Wi-Fi which requires more power to operate and a separate configuration for each device, Bluetooth requires low power consumption, is relatively simple to use, and is designed for use in a much smaller area. A network of devices formed around Bluetooth is known as a PAN, or Personal Area Network.

While the technology has been around for over ten years and its use has steadily grown, still relatively few take full advantage of the many capabilities it presents. One excellent use of Bluetooth technology for the consumer is in the home office.

The conversion of a typical home office set up to wireless technology is fairly simple and straightforward. It is not required to have any programming skills or advanced computer skills in order to make it work.

In converting your home office to Bluetooth wireless, the first order of business is acquiring an adapter for your computer. This is a small device which plugs into the USB port of your computer and will allow your computer to communicate with Bluetooth components. Many of these adapters (or dongles) are similar in size to the popular USB flash drives. The adapter becomes the “master” and is capable of communicating with up to seven Bluetooth enabled devices. They are manufactured by many well known companies in the wireless field, such as D-link and Linksys, and are readily available.

Moving on, you may then want to consider a wireless mouse and keyboard. These devices must be purchased with Bluetooth technology pre-installed (there are no converters available for these components). There are a considerable number on the market and most work basically the same. Your choice should be one of personal preference and as these are separate devices it is not necessary to replace both. In the mobile touch screen computing world there are two classes of computers. They are either the slate PC or the convertible laptops. Convertible touch screen laptops are more common among typical computer users because of the versatility it offers in being able to function as both a regular PC and a touch recognition capable tablet. A slate PC on the other hand only functions as a tablet but as a result offers a lighter weight alternative for those who need to use their touch recognition display while on the go. Obviously each device offers its own advantages.

The slate PC is a single piece where the screen makes up most of one of the large surfaces. This is in contrast to the convertible laptop with looks and functions much more like a standard laptop that opens and shuts. The slate PC is essentially a tablet with no keyboard or mouse pad but the option to use those peripherals is made possible through the USB connection. Otherwise the all user interface and command inputs are communicated to the computer entirely through the touch screen.

What makes the slate PC so useful is their dedicated purposefulness makes it a great tool for certain job functions. It is much lighter than the convertible laptop making it more portable and the lesser weight makes a difference for someone who has to carry the computer in their arms all day. Think about the waiter taking your order into a tablet PC or a nurse who has to take notes while following a doctor around the hospital.

Convertible touch screen laptops are heavier since they are designed with the keyboard as well as a separate slate for the screen which is attached by a special hinge that allows the screen to swivel. The swivel action is what makes this laptop convertible into a tablet as the screen is folded down with the screen side facing outward at which point the user can operate the computer as if it were a tablet.
